Xiaomi Redmi 1S sold out in Indonesia in 1 hour

Xiaomi started its first flash sale in Indonesia today, selling 5,000 Redmi 1S phones. As expected, anticipation mounted and all the phones are sold out in about one hour. This took way longer than the India sale, which sold 40,000 phones in 4 seconds.

The Indonesian flash sale happened inside Lazada Indonesia’s website – which crashed for a few minutes. Users had to register for the Redmi 1S sale beforehand to be eligible for the flash sale today. In total, 60,542 people signed up for the chance to buy the phone.

The newly bought phones will be delivered free of charge nationwide. Buyers in Jakarta will receive the phones today, while customers living outside the capital need to wait one more day.

Xiaomi officially launched in Indonesia last week. The phone manufacturer works together with local phone distributors and has 17 service centers in the country.

Possibly the next phone Xiaomi will sell in Indonesia is the larger-screen Redmi Note. Looking at how similar the Redmi 1S price is in Indonesia and Singapore, we anticipate that the Redmi Note would cost about IDR 2 million (US$170) in Indonesia.

Redmi Note’s biggest challenger in the country, the octa-core processor Himax Polymer, has started selling online. So far the phones have been ordered over 3,700 times in Indonesia.
