Allwinner’s Octa-core A83T

Allwinner, the Chinese wireless IC designer, has launched an octa-core processor targeted at full high-definition tablets.
Based on TSMC’s 28nm HPC process, the Octa-core processor – the A83T – has eight Cortex-A7 cores that could run simultaneously at around 2.0GHz, and implements the ARM‘s big.LITTLE architecture to maximiae the battery life, said AllWinner – although it has not yet explained how big.LITTLE can be implemented without Cortex-A17 cores in the mix. The firm’s A80 has four A7s and four A17s and implements big-LITTLE, as does rival MediaTek’s MT6595. MediaTek octo-cores at IFA
Imagination Technology’s PowerVR GPU is also combined in the A83T.
“Octa-core is leading the market now, so after the UltraOcta A80, we’re here to release another octa-core A83T for the middle range tablet market,” says Allwinner’s Jack Lee, ” its low power consumption outperforms most quad-core tablet processors in the market.”
The A83T uses Allwinner’s SmartColor technology.
The first octa-core tablet sporting Allwinner A83T is to hit markets in Q4 2014.
