Galaxy Mega 2 shown off in detail ahead of formal announcement

We’ve been hearing rumors about a next-gen Galaxy Mega for months now, with the most recent report claiming that the Mega 2 would only come in one screen size, 6-inches. Although Samsung has yet to formally announce the handset, we can now safely say that the rumors are true. Interestingly enough, it seems that a few retailers have already started selling the unannounced device in Malaysia and Thailand.

Thanks to Thai website Droid Sans, we now have a detailed look at the device. Aside from giving us some excellent pics of the handset, the site also confirms the phablet’s specs: it is powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos 4415 CPU with 1.5GB RAM, microSD, an 8MP rear cam, a 2800mAh battery and a 6-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280. The Mega 2 will also run KitKat 4.4.4 with TouchWiz right out of the box.

          
Like the original Mega, the Mega 2 isn’t exactly an impressive device, but it’s mid-range specs could be perfect for someone with moderate needs that simply wants a big-screened handset for media consumption that’s small enough to still function as a phone and yet big enough to replace a 7-inch tablet. The Galaxy Mega 2 will reportedly cost around $425 when it fully launches and will be offered in both white and black color choices.

Considering the cat appears to be fully out of the bag, we imagine that it’s only a matter of time before Samsung officially announces the device. If the Galaxy Mega 2 follows the same footsteps as its predecessor, we can expect it to ship globally and should at least end up available through a few U.S. carriers as well.
