ZTE net profit jumps on 4G growth in China

Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp on Thursday posted a 191 per cent jump in quarterly net profit, thanks to strong demand for equipment to build China’s next-generation mobile networks.
ZTE posted a 703 million yuan ($114.89 million) profit for July-September, the company said in a filing to the Shenzhen stock exchange.
The result was in line with a 570 million to 770 million yuan estimate, according to Reuters’ calculations based on the company data released in August.
ZTE, which competes with Huawei Technologies Co Ltd in the telecom gear and smartphone sectors, posted a record first-half profit in August thanks to improving margins in its global business and higher 4G capital expenditure in China.
The company shares fell 0.4 per cent in Hong Kong prior to the announcement on Thursday. The stock has risen 12 per cent so far this year.

The OnePlus One pre-order window will only last an hour

The company did not mention when or if the OnePlus One will be available for pre-orders at any other time in the future, but there’s a good chance this will be the case. Xiaomi has had a lot of success with its flash sales in both China and India, and maybe this is the same process that OnePlus is trying to mimic on a global scale.
To make sure that you don’t waste precious time when pre-orders actually launch, make sure to head on to the page here complete the details of your purchase before the day comes. All of the payments will be processed via PayPal, so make sure to have a working PayPal account that you can use.
Unfortunately for OnePlus fans, it looks like the company won’t adopt more traditional purchasing methods very soon. There has been a lot of controversy regarding the invitation system, and the new time-limited pre-order system will surely raise discontent voices as well.
The company claims that the pre-order system is “a huge step towards expanding the reach of OnePlus”, do you guys think that they’re wrong? Drop us a comment in the section below and share your thoughts.

Hopefully the electronically controlled rotating system won’t be there just to impress prospective customers. Possible applications on the Oppo N3 could include a mode that automatically rotates the camera to ensure the subject remains in the frame.
Other details that Oppo revealed about the upcoming N3 – besides the 1/2.3-inch 16MP sensor – are limited to the the usage of a Lithium-Alluminum alloy as a build material. Rumors claim that the Oppo N3 will arrive with a 5.9-inch QHD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, and 3GB of RAM, but don’t put any weight on these claims just yet.
What do you guys think of the Oppo N3’s electronically controlled rotating camera? Marketing feature or innovation? Don’t be shy to share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Xiaomi Mi 4 and Redmi Note to land in India within 60 days

xiaomi has so far had great success in India, where it's been holding weekly flash sales for a while. However, the only two devices that the company has offered Indian buyers until now have been the Mi 3and the Redmi 1S.
Things will change soon, thankfully. Both the Mi 4 (pictured below), the Chinese smartphone maker's current flagship handset, as well as the Redmi Note, its first phablet, could become available in India within the next two months.

The information comes from Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's VP for international markets, so it's as official as it can be. Keep in mind though that things can change, and a specific release date hasn't been set for either device.
Also, the Mi 4 won't arrive in India before December. Xiaomi's other products, including the Mi Pad tablet and the Mi TV, are only going to reach the subcontinent in 2015. The Mi 3, on the other hand, won't be sold again.

Google Nexus 6 specifications

Motorola Nexus 6
Nexus 6 mock-up by Android Police
If the rumoured October 15 unveiling of the new Nexus devices is real, we are just days away from the Google Nexus 6 announcement. As we wait for Wednesday, here is quick refresher about what we have heard about the next Nexus smartphone so far.
Like all Nexus devices, Nexus 6 has seen a fair shares of leaks and rumours. Although for quite some time, there wasn’t any clarity about the specifics of the phone, but looks like we finally have a decent idea of what to expect from Nexus 6.

Who is manufacturing Google Nexus 6?

As you would know, even though Google’s name is associated with Nexus devices, it doesn’t manufacture them or work directly with ODM to build these devices. It picks up an Android manufacturer each year to work on new Nexus devices, which are then built with significant input from the company.
Coming to the nexus 6 manufacturer, it is pretty much confirmed at this point that Motorola Mobility is making the next Nexus smartphone. Although Motorola worked with Google on Xoom tablet, this will be the first time, Motorola is teaming up with the search giant to build a Nexus device. Thanks to the company’s history of making great Android products, we have high hopes for Motorola-made Nexus 6. As per online reports as well as sightings in the Chromium code-review, we know that Nexus 6 is codenamed as Shamu and carries XT1112 model number.

Google Nexus 6 specifications

According to rumours, the smartphone will be based on the Moto X (2nd-Gen) but it will come with a larger display – 5.9-inch to be precise. The display will include QHD (2560x1440p) resolution. Among other specifications, the Nexus 6 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor. The phone will also come with 3GB of RAM, 3200 mAh battery, and 16/ 32GB of internal storage.
Motorola Shamu
A leaked image showing Google Nexus 6 with LG G3
On the imaging front, Google and Motorola seem to have decided to go with 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation and 2MP front shooter. The Nexus 6 will run on Android L, which is no surprise and come with pure Google version of the OS, like other Nexus devices.
Rest of the specifications are unclear at this point but we can expect the phone to feature Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 or 4.1, GPS and 4G LTE support.
As you can see, these are some impressive specifications but the phablet-sized display of the phone remains a concern and will alienate a significant chunk of the consumers. It would be interesting to see the reasoning Google offers at the time of the official announcement about going so large with Nexus 6. I am hoping that Google will surprise us with a smaller Nexus smartphone along with Nexus 6 but it seems unlikely at this point.

Design

As I wrote earlier in the post, Nexus 6 is based on Motorola’s 2nd-gen Moto X and whatever leaked images have appeared online, show that phone will carry a similar design to the new Moto X. It will include a metal frame like the Motorola flagship and also the soft-touch back cover.
There is no confirmation if Google is including front stereo speakers in the phone as the Moto X (2nd-Gen) doesn’t have them.

Availability and pricing

These two details still remain a big mystery but a recent report had suggested that the upcoming Nexus 9 tablet, which will be announced alongside Nexus 6, is going on sale starting November 3. So, it is possible that Nexus 6 will be available beginning the same day.
We are hoping for an aggressive price-tag but no specific number is known at ths point, it would be great if Google can retail it under $500.

HTC One (M8 Eye) and One (E8 Eye) coming to India soon

HTC One M8 EyeHTC seems to be planning to launch not just HTC One (M8 Eye) but also a smartphone called HTC One (E8 Eye) in the Indian market. Although the M8 Eye has been made official in China and is set to be launched on October 15, this is the first time we are hearing about the One (E8 Eye).
First spotted by tech blog Gadgetzarena, the HTC One (E8 Eye) has been listed on Indian import tracking website Zauba.com along with One (M8 Eye). As per the import data website, HTC India has imported over 9000 units of One (M8 Eye) and over 1100 units of One (E8 Eye) in the last one week, indicating at an impending release.
Although there is no word on the official release date, we expect to hear from HTC India in the next week or two.
As per the HTC China website, HTC One (M8 Eye) features dual-SIM support, 5-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and microSD card slot. In addition, the phone packs a 13MP rear camera (with some sort of 3D capture support), 5MP front shooter, 4G TD-LTE support, Android 4.4 with HTC Sense & Eye Experience enhancements, and 2600 mAh battery.
The HTC One (E8 Eye) specifications are unclear at this point but they are likely to be similar to HTC One (M8) with some differences, most likely on the camera front with HTC Eye Experience enhancements.

HTC One (M8 Eye) official in China, goes on sale

HTC One M8 EyeUpdate: After posting a promo page for One (M8 Eye), HTC has now made the smartphone official by detailing it on its website. The listing also reveals the full specifications of the phone, which are same as the HTC One (M8) apart from the rear camera change, which is 13MP, and not 4MP Ultrapixel.
Earlier: HTC has silently listed the much-rumoured HTC One (M8 Eye) smartphone on its China website. As per some rumours, the M8 Eye will only be released in China and India, which will suggest why there has been no global announcement and the company did not mention the phone earlier today at Desire Eye unveiling.
As per HTC China website, the phone will be officially launched on October 15 for 3,999 yuan ($652, INR 39,770) and the interested consumers can register for the sale now at the website.
The full set of specifications of M8 Eye haven’t been revealed at this point but the promo page reveals that the phone include HTC’s new Eye Experience with enhancements like Split Capture, better video calls, face fusion, live make-up and more. In addition, the listing notes that M8 Eye will come with dual-SIM support, 13MP rear camera with some kind of 3D recording support, 4G LTE connectivity and Boomsound speakers. The phone packs the same design as HTC One M8, so visually, there is going to be no difference between One M8 and One M8 Eye.
We hope to get more details on October 15.
